Looking for a Tour Guide of Treviso?

I discovered the magic of Treviso about twenty years ago while I was working in an art gallery close to the Pescheria. In my free time, I visited all the hidden corners of this beautiful city! And today, as a Treviso Tour Guide, it is a pleasure for me to welcome you for a walking tour of the city!

Charming water canals

The green and silent Sile river and the point where it meets the canals, or cagnan, crossing the historic centre were so fascinating to me! Very close to this area south of town we can find Via dello Squero, that alway reminds me of Venice. Squero means boatyard. Even today there are in Venice two or three historic boatyards for the construction of the so many kinds of rowing boats, some with really funny names!

Treviso is known as a City of Water, recognised also by Dante Alighieri. He wrote in the Divine Comedy about the almost magical phenomenon “where Sile and cagnan go on side by side”. I like to revisit these places, to follow the watermill’s wheels along the Cagnan Grande until the Fish Market.

I like to admire the frescoes on the facades of the palaces and to count the so many reproductions of the IHS monogram of Saint Bernardino of Siena wanted by all the families devoted to the founder of the Monte di Pietà. And what can we say about the charming Buranelli Canal, quiet corner and place for thinkers?

Treviso, City of Art

Treviso is a City of Art: here and there you can admire some beautiful contemporary works of art. In many churches you can find the frescoes of the XIV century by Tomaso Da Modena. Do you know that he painted the glasses for the first time in the history of art?

The Cathedral houses also the Annunciation by Titian. The ancient Roman street, the Calmaggiore, leads to the heart of the city, Piazza dei Signori, with the impressive Civic Tower and the magnificent Palazzo dei Trecento. Its Venetian public Loggia is very different form the private Loggia del Cavalieri, where noble people used to play chess in medieval times.

The best Tiramisù!

Before leaving the charming Treviso, remember to drink some fresh water from the Fontana delle Tette. They say it brings good luck! Maybe after a good risotto with the local Red Radicchio or a traditional Tiramisù!

I will be pleased to give you more suggestions as a local tour guide of Treviso! Ready to discover the city?
