Looking for a Tour Guide of Padua?

Let me take you on a journey to discover Padua, one of the most historically significant cities in the Veneto region! Renowned primarily for the splendid Scrovegni Chapel, adorned with frescoes by Giotto, the ancient University, and the majestic Basilica of Saint Anthony, Padua holds many other treasures waiting to be admired.

Padua also means visiting the Cathedral and the Baptistery, frescoed by Giusto de’ Menabuoi, the Palazzo della Ragione with the world’s largest astrological cycle, the Jewish Ghetto with its still-active community, the thousand species of flowers and plants at the Botanical Garden, and enjoying a coffee at the iconic Caffè Pedrocchi.

A guided tour will allow you to savor Padua’s millenary history, marvel at the most beautiful palaces in the medieval and Renaissance heart of the city, wander through lively market squares and porticoed streets, and visit the monuments that intrigue you the most.

The "Città dei Tre Senza"

Did you know that Padua is humorously nicknamed the "Città dei Tre Senza" (The "City of the Three Without")? This refers to the saint without a name, the field without grass, and the café without doors. Why? Padua’s patron saint is Saint Anthony, but the Basilica is simply referred to as the Basilica of the Saint, so famous is the saint’s name. The city’s largest square, Prato della Valle, ironically doesn’t have much grass! Finally, the 19th-century Caffè Pedrocchi was indeed "without doors," as it stayed open both day and night until 1916.

UNESCO Heritage Sites

Padua is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites! The first, recognized in 1997, is the Botanical Garden, founded in 1545. It is the world’s oldest academic botanical garden still in its original location. Created for the cultivation and study of medicinal plants, today it also features the Biodiversity Garden, housing over 6,000 plant and tree species. The second site, recognized in 2021, includes the 14th-century fresco cycles scattered throughout the city. These frescoes share a common style and theme, with Giotto’s work in the Scrovegni Chapel as their model.
